The Philippine National Police Special Action Force successfully held its month-long 31st Founding Anniversary celebration with a series of activities that emphasized its growing relevance as the tactical and support unit of the PNP.


The activities kicked off on May 6, 2014 with the Bloodletting Program which was held in coordination with the Philippine Blood Center at the SAF Covered Court. In all, 45 liters of blood were collected from 113 volunteer donors of the unit.

On the following day, representatives of the different line units participated in the first ever Painting Competition with the theme, “SAF: Tagaligtas ng Mamamayan Tungo sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran.”

On May 12, the Annual SAF Challenge was opened at the SAF Training Branch in Sta. Rosa City. This gruelling competition that featured a display of physical stamina and specialized skills in different fields was participated in by representatives from SAF Line Battalions, other PNP Units and the AFP. The activity held its closing program in Minanga, Morong, Bataan on May 14, with the 5th Special Action Battalion winning the coveted title.

At 3:00 PM on May 16, a program to commemorate the activation of the unit on May 16, 1983 was conducted at the Headquarters SAF in Bicutan, Taguig City. The Chief Directorial Staff, Police Deputy Director General Marcelo P. Garbo, was the Guest of Honor and Speaker of the event which was highlighted by the recognition of the individual and unit awardees in different categories. It was followed at 6:00 PM by the fellowship at the SAF Quadrangle in which recent and former SAF troopers were in attendance as they relived their experience while assigned to the unit.

The month-long celebration culminated on June 1 in conjunction with the closing ceremony of the “SAF Shoot for a Cause” which was held at the NCRPO Firing Range. The proceeds of the competition will be used to fund the programs of the SAF Tagaligtas Foundation as well as the rehabilitation of the SAF Firing Range and procurement of range equipment to help in the capability enhancement of SAF personnel.
