With Presidential Proclamation No.164, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte proclaimed every 25th of January as the “National Day of Remembrance for the Gallant SAF 44” to remind fellow Filipino the heroism of the SAF 44 and the daily sacrifices of the uniformed servicemen for the continued peace and security of our Nation.

Today marks the 5th year of remembering the heroic act and selflessness of 44 Police Commandos. The activity took off with a Eucharistic mass officiated by PCOL ARNULFO A CASTILLO, Chaplain Service and was immediately followed by the wreath laying Ceremony which was graced by PLTGEN GUILLERMO LORENZO T ELEAZAR, The Deputy Chief, PNP for Operations, as the guest of honor and speaker, PBGEN HERMINIO D TADEO JR., Deputy Regional Director for Administration, NCRPO, as one of the Distinguished guest together with the families of the fallen, other PNP officers, former SAF Directors and civilian guest at Headquarters SAF, Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City on January 25 2020.

Rodrigo Acob III, son of late Police Master Sergeant Rodrigo Acob Jr., one of the SAF 44, shared the pain and their experience of losing a father whom he looked up as their “lodi and hero.” He said, “Ang kanilang kabayanihan ang nagbibigay sa amin ng lakas at inspirasyon para ipagpatuloy ang buhay na wala sila. As we are all gathered today, we remember the unfathomable pain but as a son of a hero, I want to encourage not just my fellow millennials but the whole Filipino people, sana po maging huwaran sila sa ating lahat na gawin ang ating mga tungkulin, maliit man o malaki para makatulong tayo sa pagkamit ng kapayapaan sa ating bansa.” Before he ended, he expressed his gratitude on behalf of the families of the SAF 44 to President Duterte, the PNP leadership and the Special Action Force for all the support and assistance extended to them.

Meanwhile, in his message, PLTGEN ELEAZAR immortalized the heroic deeds of the SAF 44 through the story of the famous Greek warrior Achilles written in the book of Homer. He highlighted the bravery of the 44 SAF troopers who fought until their last breath to keep our flag waiving freely in the wind. The display of such courage changed the course of the PNP’s history and its personnel by continuously serving as an inspiration to the force. He hoped that the story of the SAF 44 will be passed from generation to generation and will become a source of inspiration just like the story of Achilles.
