SAF Commemorates Memorial Day with Simple Rites
CAMP BAGONG DIWA, Taguig City - The Special Action Force led by PMGEN AMANDO CLIFTON B EMPISO, Director, SAF paid tribute to all departed SAF Troopers in its traditional “SAF Memorial Day” this morning with PLTGEN CESAR HAWTHORNE R BINAG, the Chief of the Directorial Staff, PNP as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
For this year, SAF commemorated its honored tradition in a simplified ceremony and with limited number of attendees due to the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine being implemented in Metro Manila.
The commemoration started with a virtual mass officiated by PLTCOL RONIE B ARONG from PNP Chaplain Service followed by the wreath-laying ceremony and a video tribute from the families of SAF Troopers who died in line of duty, highlighting the occasion.
PMGEN EMPISO, who has hosted the commemoration for the second consecutive time, extended his sympathy to all the families and relatives of those who have departed.
“I want to extend again my sympathy and condolences to the families of our departed troopers. I know that no words can compensate the pain and suffering that you have endured since you lost your loved ones”, he said.
Meanwhile, PLTGEN BINAG, also a former member of the Philippine Constabulary-Special Action Force (PC-SAF) stressed how difficult and honorable a SAF Trooper’s life is and gave praise to the gallant ones who sacrificed their lives in the name of service.
“To the families of our gallant men who have laid down their lives ahead of us who are still here today – let me just state the obvious: your husbands, wives, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, were not ordinary. They were heroes right from the start. “, PLTGEN BINAG said.
SAF Memorial Day is one of SAF’s best practices, which started way back in 2008 during the stint of PMGEN LEOCADIO SC SANTIAGO, JR (Ret.) as the director of the unit. By tradition, it is commemorated every 8th day of August, coinciding with the Police Service Anniversary Celebration, wherein former SAF Commanders, SAF Advisory Council members, SAF honorary members, AFP and foreign counterparts, and the families and relatives of the departed are invited at Headquarters SAF.
